Partner content: Weekend Consistency vs Weekend Binge Behavior

We probably all know people who claim they have been “bad” over the weekend. Often that means all of their typical food/beverage and activity/exercise habits are thrown out the window. Instead they may skip meals, eat more than normal or eat and drink foods and beverages they might not normally consume.

But what’s the problem with indulgence over the weekend? It all depends on how much you might vary from your normal habits, but the side-effects could include:

• Poor sleep caused by eating food later at night or eating higher fat foods causing indigestions.

• Feeling sluggish or bloated from eating unfamiliar foods, more food or not enough fiber and not getting enough fluid.

This isn’t to say you shouldn’t enjoy the weekends or family and social gatherings, but if your weekend habits are vastly different than how you live during the week, you may end up paying the price on Monday morning!

At our inception 20 years ago, we chose to be different. Unlike other news organizations, we made the decision to provide in-depth, regional reporting free to anyone who wanted access to it. We don’t plan to change that model. Support from our readers will help us maintain and strengthen the editorial independence that is crucial to our mission to help make Western North Carolina a better place to call home. If you are able, please support The Smoky Mountain News.

The Smoky Mountain News is a wholly private corporation. Reader contributions support the journalistic mission of SMN to remain independent. Your support of SMN does not constitute a charitable donation. If you have a question about contributing to SMN, please contact us.
